Today’s health care environment is constantly evolving, and advances of medicine are occurring at an accelerating pace. Continuing medical education (CME) plays an important role in the health care environment and is an essential element of year-to-year physician training, learning, knowledge and improvement, as well as a major contributor to proper patient care and well being. It is critical that physicians, who are entrusted with the responsibility of offering the best health care available, be presented with CME activities that enable them to serve their patients to the best of their abilities and live up to professional standards of excellence. PIM embraces this ideology and follows it in order to design effective educational activities that truly impact physician practice patterns and ultimately improve patient care.

It is the policy of PIM to ensure balance, independence, objectivity and scientific rigor in all of its CME activities. In order to protect the quality and accuracy of the CME product, PIM ensures strict adherence to the Essential Areas, Policies and Standards as defined by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, as well as with all guidelines put forth by the United States Food and Drug Administration and the American Medical Association. In this manner, the triad of participants (the grantor, PIM as CME sponsor, and the physician attendees) is assured of compliance with the agencies and policies that govern their practices. In addition, although not a regulatory document, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals is also used as a guide by PIM during the development and implementation of any and all CME-certified activities.
